Chelsea have completed the signing of Axel Disasi in a £38million deal from Monaco.

The Blues have confirmed the arrival of the Frenchman who becomes the club’s fifth signing of another busy summer.

Chelsea obviously suffered a major blow with Wesley Fofana’s ACL injury. The former Leicester City defender will be likely out for most of the upcoming season. Disasi has arrived as a replacement for his injured compatriot.

The north Londoners quickly identified the 25-year-old as the ideal signing to bolster their right-sided centre-back options.  Disasi put pen to paper on a long-term contract after arriving London for medicals on Tuesday.

The France international made 118 appearances for Monaco after joining them from Stade de Reims three years ago – while often captaining the team. He has also enjoyed four international caps for the Didier Deschamps’ side.

Disasi has arrived Stamford Bridge as a replacement for the injured Fofana

Chelsea’s co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart were positive about their latest arrival: ‘Axel has showcased his quality over several seasons in France and that has deservedly led to recognition on the international stage.

‘He is ready to take the next step in his career and we are delighted that will be with Chelsea. We welcome him to the club and look forward to him joining up with Mauricio Pochettino and his new teammates in the days ahead.’

Disasi becomes Mauricio Pochettino’s fifth recruit. This follows the arrivals of attackers Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku as well as youngsters Angelo Gabriel and Lesley Ugochukwo.

National Daily learnt that the negotiations between Chelsea and Monaco were relatively straightforward. The two clubs shared a good relationship. The Blues technical director Laurence Stewart was previously in the books of the Ligue 1 side.

Chelsea and Monaco recently did a transfer business. Benoit Badiashile switched Stade Louis-II for Stamford Bridge just three months ago in a £32million deal.

Chelsea will hope to reunite Disasi with his old defensive partner, Badiashile who is currently recovering from a hamstring injury.

Pochettino was coy on Disasi’s imminent arrival over the weekend when reports first emerged about the deal, saying: ‘You have more news than me!’

He later added: ‘Fofana is injured so I think maybe it’s obvious that we need to reinforce this area, it’s clear no?’
