One feared dead, several others injured as police allegedly open fire on protesting students
At least one student died and several others sustained gunshot injuries after police officers allegedly opened fire on protesting students of Imo State Polytechnic in Umuagwo.
It was gathered that the unfortunate incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, December 15, 2022.
A student who spoke to newsmen said: “Police officers from state CID will come to our school to arrest male students for no reason. And the worst part is, they don’t take them to their station, instead they drive them to nearly bushes where they extorted them by force.
This has been going on for a while and today, the student decided to stage a protest, only for some police officers escorting a bullion van to start shooting directly at them.
One student has been confirmed dead and about six others sustained injuries.”
