One killed as ethnic clash erupts in Ibadan following reported overnight stabbing
Tension gripped the Ojoo area of Ibadan on Wednesday after a tricycle repairer of Yoruba extraction was reportedly stabbed to death, triggering clashes between groups of youths.
According to early reports, the victim was allegedly attacked overnight by individuals described by eyewitnesses as Hausa scrap collectors.
Witnesses claimed the suspects chased a group of people after allegedly pulling out a firearm concealed in a sack of collected scrap before fatally stabbing the tricycle engineer.
The identity of the victim had not been officially released as of the time of filing this report, while authorities were yet to confirm the circumstances surrounding the killing or the identities of those allegedly involved.

Residents also claimed that several Northerners living in the area had gone into hiding amid growing tension, as angry youths demanded that those responsible for the killing be identified and brought to justice.
The incident reportedly sparked violence on Wednesday morning, with clashes breaking out between groups identified as Yoruba and Hausa youths.
Personnel of Operation Burst were deployed to the Ojoo area to restore calm and prevent further escalation.
As of the time of this report, security agencies had not issued an official statement confirming the casualty figures or the cause of the unrest. Authorities are expected to investigate the incident and determine the circumstances surrounding the reported killing.
