Insecurity now overwhelming in Nigeria – Obasanjo
L
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo had in Abeokuta, Ogun State, decried the intractable insecurity crisis in the country, saying that the security challenges have become more overwhelming in Nigeria. The former President receiving a presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Ugochukwu Williams, who was on consultation visit at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, noted that the country has been plunged into a hopeless situation since people are no longer safe anywhere.
According to Dr. Obasanjo, “A situation where we are not safe on the roads, in the train, we are not safe at the airport then what is remaining?”
Dr. Obasanjo, however, advocated that the magnitude of insecurity in Nigeria is no longer a problem one man claims a unilateral solution to handle, stating that the insecurity crisis requires collective efforts of citizens to restore law and order in the country.
Dr. Obasanjo had said: “The situation we are in, in the country today, is not a situation where one man will say yes, I have a solution. Unless we are deceiving ourselves.
“I believe we need to sit down collectively and look at the situation.”
Dr. Ugochukwu Williams had briefed the former President of his presidential aspiration for the 2023 general elections, adding that he was in Abeokuta to seek the wise counsel of Dr. Obasanjo to guide his electioneering campaign for the PDP presidential ticket in the preparations for the general elections.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, a leading PDP presidential aspirant, including Governor Bala Mohammed of bauchi State, had earlier visited Dr. Obasanjo to consult him on their presidential aspirations for 2023.
