PDP warns Oshiomhole against spreading false information, cites legal consequences
A representative of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to former APC National Chairman, Senator Adams Oshiomhole about the legal repercussions of spreading false information or propaganda in the lead-up to elections in Edo state.
The party also highlighted provisions in the new Electoral Act, specifically Section 120, 3b, and C, noting that anyone found guilty of disseminating false or reckless statements aimed at discrediting a candidate could face up to six months in jail or a fine of 100,000 Naira.
The PDP emphasized that they have already filed complaints and are prepared to hold individuals accountable for violating these laws.
The party stressed the importance of upholding the law and made it clear that public figures, including those like Adams Oshiomhole, would not be exempt from legal consequences if found guilty of such offenses.

Also reacting, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, condemned Oshiomhole’s televised remarks against its governorship candidate in Edo state, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, as desperate and misleading.
Ologunagba further argued that Oshiomhole’s conduct and past actions have already discredited him among the people of Edo State, who, according to him, have shown strong support for Dr. Ighodalo.
He urged Oshiomhole to focus on addressing allegations of corruption during his tenure as governor rather than spreading misinformation about the PDP candidate.
He said, “Nigerians watched with utter dismay as Adams Oshiomhole struggled to convey a false narrative laden with fabrications and barefaced lies on national TV in a desperate but failed effort to detract from the overwhelming popularity and support of the majority of Edo State citizens across party lines for Dr. Asue Ighodalo.

Ologunagba further said, it was now clear to all discerning minds that Comrade Oshiomhole is an inconsistent character whose words and pronouncements cannot be relied upon.
“Comrade Oshiomhole displayed a ludicrous ignorance by his false assertion that the process leading to the emergence of Dr. Asue Ighodalo as PDP governorship candidate was manipulated; a process that was adjudged to be free, fair, credible; in compliance with the Constitution and Governorship Electoral Guideline of the PDP, the Electoral Act, 2022 and upheld by the Court.
“This resort to falsehood and propaganda by Oshiomhole further confirms that the APC and its candidate, Monday Okpebholo have been jittery since the emergence of Dr. Asue Ighodalo as the PDP candidate judging from Dr. Ighodalo’s intimating credentials and overwhelming popularity and acceptability by the people.
