Reps opposes planned increase in electricity tariff
The House of Representatives in a resolution on Thursday strongly opposed and rejected the planned increase in electricity tariff by the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) for the DISCOs under the guise of current economic realities.

Aliyu Sani Madaki, House of Reps member, moved a motion to reject plan to increase electricity tariff by NERC
A member of the of the House, Aliyu Madaki, had raised a motion against the planned tariff increase, expressing strong opposition to the price increase, arguing that the recent increase in the pump price of petrol has already increased the burden of many Nigerians.
Aliyu Madaki argued that “it is inappropriate and insensitive to introduce such a significant tariff increase at a time when citizens are still grappling with the impact of the petrol price surge.”
The House, thereafter, directed the committee on power, once constituted, to liaise with NERC, and find a mutual understanding and a middle ground to address the proposed electricity tariff increase, pointing out the prevailing economic challenges Nigerians are facing.
