Shock in Enugu as woman, son killed by relative in Igbo-Etiti community
Residents of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area in Enugu State have been left in deep shock following the alleged killing of a woman and her young son in Ekwegbe community by a male relative.
The disturbing incident reportedly occurred on Friday and came to public attention after it was shared on social media by influencer Chijinkem Ugwuanyi.
According to the post, the suspect, identified simply as Nwa Jonah, allegedly attacked and killed his sister and her son in Ekwegbe, a quiet agrarian community within Igbo-Etiti LGA. The motive behind the incident remains unclear as of the time of this report.
The influencer also alleged that a separate but similar tragedy occurred in Ukehe, another community within the same local government area, where a man reportedly killed his mother under the alleged influence of hard drugs.
Residents described the Ekwegbe incident as unprecedented and deeply troubling.
“This is something we have never experienced here,” said a community member who requested anonymity. “People are afraid and confused. We want answers.”
Local sources say the killings have heightened anxiety across surrounding communities, with many residents calling for increased security presence and urgent intervention by authorities.
As of press time, security agencies in Enugu State had yet to issue an official statement confirming the incidents or providing details about arrests, investigations, or possible motives.
Efforts to reach the Enugu State Police Command for comment were unsuccessful.
The circumstances surrounding both incidents remain unclear, including whether the cases are connected or coincidental. Authorities are expected to launch a full investigation to determine the facts and bring those responsible to justice.
Meanwhile, community leaders are urging residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information as investigations continue.
