TikToker Peller arraigned over alleged obstruction of Police, granted N500,000 bail

Popular TikTok content creator Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court on a three-count charge bordering on alleged obstruction of police officers, resisting lawful arrest and recording officers while they were carrying out their official duties.

Peller was arraigned alongside Bello Oladipo by the Lagos State Police Command following an incident that occurred on July 2 along the Coastal Road in Lagos.

According to the prosecution, the defendants conspired to resist public officers, obstructed police personnel from carrying out their lawful duties and allegedly threatened officers during the encounter.

The incident reportedly began after police officers intercepted a vehicle allegedly being driven without a registration plate. Peller had maintained that he had only recently purchased the vehicle, but the officers insisted it be taken to the police station for further investigation.

The situation later escalated when the TikToker began recording his interaction with the officers. Peller subsequently alleged that the officers became hostile, claiming that one of them pulled his shirt and pointed a gun at him during the confrontation.

According to the charge sheet, the first count accused Peller and Oladipo of conspiring to commit the felony of resisting public officers, contrary to Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The second count alleged that the defendants obstructed ASP Victor Agbede and three other police officers while they were performing their official duties, contrary to Section 117(1) and (2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court subsequently admitted both defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with conditions to be met before their release.

The matter was adjourned to a later date for the commencement of trial.
