Update on Maiduguri attack: 21 persons killed as Army repel Boko Haram attack on Maiduguri
About 21 persons have been declared killed as the Nigeria Army repelled the attack on Maiduguri, capital of Borno State, by the Boko Haram terrorists on Thursday. The corpses of the deceased were deposited at the General Hospital in the state. However, the exact number of people killed in the terrorists assault is not yet ascertained as doctors were said to be attended to other injured persons.
Troops of the Operation Lafiya Dole had engaged the terrorists in gun battle that attacked the capital city at about 6.25pm on Thursday, overwhelming the insurgents at about 8.12 pm. The Army authorities in a statement Thursday evening, declared that normalcy had been restored in Maiduguri, assuring of rapid response to attacks by the terrorists in the North East.
The Boko Haram terrorists launched an on a part of the city after penetrating the capital through the Polo area.
Meanwhile, residents were said to remain indoors as calm returns to the city.
