What does the lower back dimple mean?
A lot of people have dimples on their back but they do not know what it means or what caused it. However, this article will explain all about back dimples. According to expert, back dimples are also known as dimples of Venus. This name comes from Venus, who is believed to be the goddess of beauty.
Back dimples are usually indentations on the lower back. These indentations are over the joints. They are usually formed as a result of a short ligament that attaches the outside edge of the iliac bone and the skin. Back dimples are usually present in females.
Some people may have back dimples or sacral dimples. People with back dimples usually have it on each side of their lower back while people with sacral dimples usually have only one dimple.
Most times these dimples are usually present at birth and are harmless. However, the sacral dimple can be associated with medical conditions such as;
1) Spina bifida occulta: This medical condition occurs when the spine doesn’t close completely, it doesn’t usually cause any symptoms.
2) Tethered cord syndrome: This condition can keep the spinal cord from hanging freely and also limit its movement. It can also lead to leg weakness and numbness.
However, despite these medical conditions, the back dimple usually has no medical implication and are usually a fairly common cosmetic feature. It is also considered a sign of beauty in women.
