Precisely from the 1st of April, Dancing With Pastor Johnny will start showing on the Ceflix platform. Ediale Kingsley was at the movie’s live premiere at the LCA Baptistry to have a firsthand experience of what Pastor Obehi Oyakhilome and her Glambus Production team have created.
‘Dancing with Pastor Johnny’ — a tale of faith, hope, and victory — featured Bishop Chikancy and some other talented budding thespians who did justice in interpreting the feature-length flick. The Glambus Production crew filmed this project majorly at Ago Pedro slum and endured the environmental condition of the location as they took some form of impact to the people. One interesting feature of the film is a scene in the movie that accommodated some of the community persons.
The movie, which is a story of victory over trials and tribulations, a session in hope, faith, and survival, is packaged to inspire its viewers and bring tears to their eyes at different points. Another plus is how the movie is laced with moments of comic reliefs without losing the message the producers intended to pass. With Chikancy, the comic, playing the very serious role of the Pastor, you know what to expect. You can be sure he didn’t disappoint. There were loads of moments where we interrupted the premiere with loud laughter.
Speaking with Pastor Obehi Oyakhilome – who I think has a face for the screen – about her challenges during the principal photography of the project. She narrated the ordeal of how the people were nice and hospitable. “They gave us food, fishes to eat and they were not hostile. But the environment was really bad. The creeks are not sand-filled but were filled with dirt. The stench was really bad; they urinate and do everything there. The environment was really sickening, I just wondered how they survive there, I couldn’t wear my shoes, and I had to wear rain boots. I was glad I took my crew there; it was an eye-opener for them all. And we also ensured we left the people with some great impartation”.
She also explained that the film is here to remind pastors sent on such uncomfortable assignment, that the focus should be on the people and not in the community. “The aim basically is to inspire pastors and brethren who are transferred to remote areas. To remind them not to look at the surrounding but the people there and try to show compassion as they actually preach the word to them and make them accept Christ as their personal lord and savior. So this movie shows how this Pastor lives the comfort zone and to an area where he is not so comfortable and still produces the same result” she said.
DWPJ is about a man of God who is gets transferred to a slum community and how he met some dancers in that community and how he was able to lead them to Christ. Pastor Johnny turned the young dancers into leaders for the Gospel. One last thing, Pastor Obehi told me how Pastor Christ Oyakhilome helped in fine tuning the movie scripts and also of his support all the way through the movie-making process.
Pastor Chris has seen the movie, I recommend you see it.
