Woman dragged to court for selling cartons of beer worth N1.5m
For stealing some cartons of beer worth N1.5m, a woman and two others were dragged to an Enugu Magistrate court on Wednesday in Enugu.
The accused persons are Ikechukwu Ugonna, 45, Chinwendu Nwafor, 39, and Udochukwu Eze, 32, and they denied committing the offence.
They were arraigned in an Enugu North Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 474 cartons of beer worth N1. 5million.
The prosecutor, Mr Emmanuel Ajiogwu, explained to the court that the case was reported at the Ngwo Police Station on June 1, 2017, by the complainant, Mr Gerald Ojukwu.
It was gathered that the first defendant, Udochukwu Eze, was said to have given the 474 cartons of drink to Chinwendu Nwafor, a woman.
It was learnt that Nwafor went ahead to hand them over to Ikechukwu Ugonna, knowing full well that they were stolen goods.
National Daily gathered that the offence is contrary to the provisions of the Criminal Code Cap 30 Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria 2004.
As a result, the Chief Magistrate, Mr D. K. Ekoh, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N300, 000 each, with one surety each in like sum and adjourned the case to August 1 for further hearing.
