Eid-el Fitr: FG declares Thursday additional public holiday

Buhari in dilemma

There appears to be cherry news for some and not so for others as Nigerians hoping to return to work on Thursday July 7th will have to reschedule their itinerary as the Federal Government has declared Thursday additional public holiday to enable Moslems in the country celebrate the Eid-el-Fitr.

This is even as government had declared Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th July, 2016 as public holidays.

Making the declaration on behalf of government, the Minister of Interior Abdulrahman Dambazau said in a statement today signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Bassey Okon Akpanyung urged Nigerians to use this period of sober reflections to ensure harmony, unity and peaceful co-existence, while giving full support to the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in his sustained effort to pursue socio-economic and political growth of the nation.

The need for additional day followed the directive by the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, to the effect that the Ramadan fast will continue today Tuesday as a result of the non-sighting of the moon.
