16-year-old becomes Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant

Sixteen-year-old Osasere Okundaye has made history by becoming Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant, a remarkable achievement that has earned widespread commendation, including recognition from the Federal Government.

The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, congratulated the teenager in a statement issued on Monday, describing her accomplishment as an inspiring demonstration of the exceptional potential of Nigerian youths.

Olawande praised Okundaye for her dedication, discipline, resilience and unwavering commitment to academic excellence, saying her success serves as a beacon of hope for young Nigerians aspiring to achieve greatness.

“I heartily congratulate Miss Osasere Okundaye on her outstanding achievement of becoming Nigeria’s youngest Chartered Accountant at just 16 years of age,” the minister said.

“This remarkable milestone is a testament to the power of hard work, discipline, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.”

According to the minister, Okundaye’s accomplishment underscores the limitless possibilities available to young Nigerians who remain focused and determined.

“Osasere has distinguished herself as a shining example of the limitless potential of Nigerian youth. Her accomplishment reminds us that with determination, dedication, and the right support, young Nigerians can break barriers, set new records, and inspire a generation to dream bigger and strive for excellence,” he added.

Olawande also acknowledged the vital role played by Okundaye’s parents, teachers, mentors and other supporters throughout her academic journey.

He noted that their sacrifices, encouragement and belief in her abilities contributed significantly to her success.

“I also congratulate her parents, family, teachers, mentors, and everyone who has supported and guided her journey. Their encouragement, sacrifices, and belief in her abilities have undoubtedly contributed to this exceptional success,” he said.

The minister reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Youth Development’s commitment to implementing policies and programmes aimed at empowering young Nigerians to maximise their potential.

He added that Okundaye’s achievement strengthens confidence in Nigeria’s future, describing the country’s youth as focused, talented and capable of competing globally when provided with the right opportunities.

Okundaye’s record-breaking feat comes barely a year after another young Nigerian, Temilola Blossom Arise, achieved national recognition by becoming a chartered accountant at the age of 18.

Arise, an Economics student at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), successfully passed all five papers in the professional stage examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), earning her chartered accountant status while still pursuing her undergraduate studies.

The achievements of both young women have been widely celebrated as evidence of the growing academic excellence among Nigerian youths and the increasing number of students attaining professional qualifications at remarkably young ages.
