2023: Ekweremadu declares, names campaign director
Senator Ike Ekweremadu has formally announced his intention to seek a bigger and wider mandate as the 2023 general election draws near.
The former deputy Senate president is seeking the No. 1 position in Enugu.
The state governorship primary has gone through a lot of back and forth as per zoning—to the Enugu East Senatorial producing Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s successor.
Notwithstanding that Ekweremadu comes from the Enugu West Senatorial Zone, he has decided to give it a stab.
“It is now time to focus on Enugu State and Enugu people. Governorship of Enugu State will help me to serve our people more and better,” he said on Friday.
Hon. Ogbo Asogwa, a former lawmaker, is now his campaign coordinator.
Ekwereadu is one of the PDP’s holdovers in Nigeria’s political landscape.
He has been in the Senate since 1999, becoming deputy Senate president for 12 years.
