6,455 police officers smile home with new ranks
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 6,455 senior police officers across the country following recommendations by the Inspector- General of Police, Idris Ibrahim.
Giving approval in Abuja on Tuesday, the Commission however returned all recommendations relating to special promotions back to the IGP.
The Head of Press, PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, said in Abuja that those promoted are – CP Hilda Ibifuro –Harrison who is now promoted to the next rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police, (AIG) while two Deputy Commissioners of Police, Ajani Olasupo Babatunde and Olukola Taira Shina were promoted to the rank of Commissioners of Police.
A breakdown of the promotion indicate that 47 Superintendents of Police were elevated to Chief Superintendents of Police while 498 Deputy Superintendents of Police were promoted to the next rank of Superintendents of Police.
In addition, 5,907 Inspectors were also promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendents of Police.
However, DCP Mohimi D. Edgal, who has been responsible for the operatin against Badoo boys in Ikorodu and Aji Ali Janga, Deputy Commissioners of Police were appointed acting Commissioners of Police.
The Police Service Commission said the promotions and other decisions signed by the Commission’s Chairman, Mike Okiro, would be conveyed to the IGP for implementation.
