Coronavirus: First Nigerian tests positive, result dismisses black immunity theory
The first Nigerian to test positive for coronavirus has been quarantined in far away Washington.
Mayor of Washington DC, Muriel Bowser, said this on Saturday. while giving updates on the pandemic.
Reports say the Nigerian man, who just arrived US, spent time in Washington DC and tested positive for Covid-19 at a hospital in Maryland.
The unnamed man is the first Nigerian to come down with the diseases, thus dispelling the unscientific guess that blacks are immune against the virus.
However, his infection in the US also strengthens the second guess that Africa might be too hot for the virus to get too infectious.
Most of the cases detected in Africa now are foreigners–or Africans who got infected in China, Italy, Japan, and US.
The first and only positive case in Nigeria so far is an Italian who was infected in Milan before flying in to Lagos weeks Lagos.
Bowser said of the two cases in Washington – the second one is the Nigerian while the first case was that of a DC resident in his 50s who tested positive and has been hospitalized in the district.
