Gov Obaseki tests negative for COVID-19, remains quarantined

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State on Thursday tested negative for coronavirus, he, however, decided to remain in self-isolation.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, in a statement in Benin City, indicated that the result released is that of the rapid diagnostic test, noting the Governor awaits the result of the PCR test.

The S.A. stated: “I can confirm that the governor tested negative for coronavirus when he ran the rapid diagnostic test for the virus. However, we are currently awaiting the result of a more conclusive PCR test.

“In the meantime, the governor has decided to continue to work in self-isolation and he is asymptomatic.”

Governor Obaseki had on Wednesday confined himself to self-isolation, sending his samples for testing after two persons he met few days ago, tested positive for coronavirus.

The Edo State Governor had met with Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, who tested positive on return from Germany and Egypt; as well as Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State who tested positive after hosting the son of the Atiku Abubakar who visited his office in Bauchi.
