A former House of Representative Member for Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency, Hon. Shehu Saleh Hassan, has donated relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Miango community of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Our correspondent reports that the IDPs where displaced by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herders who invaded the Irigwe community on August 1 2021
Presenting the items to the IDPs, which included bags of rice, beans, soap, noodles and other condiments, Hassan urged the victims of the attack to shun reprisals, saying they must explore peaceful dialogue to ensure sustainable peace.
“We are one family under God, our mission is gospel of peace and forgiveness, we know you may have lost your loved ones, property, but please don’t retaliate.
“Revenge always creates instability and hatred. Peace should be given a chance.”
He appealed to the state government to take drastic measures that would stop barbaric killings and bring perpetrators of the crime to book.
Responding, the National President of Irigwe Youth Movement Comrade Peter Beni laud the former lawmaker for his kind gesture, urging other spirited Nigerians to come to their aid.
Beni who narrated the attack to be barbaric said most of the IDPs have lost loved ones.
“People were killed in their numbers, houses burnt and properties destroyed.
“We have lost confidence in the security operatives and shall henceforth resort to protect ourselves with sticks as we cannot afford to buy guns”, he said.
