Jos Crisis: NLC warns miscreants killing UniJos students, others
By Kingsley Chukwuka
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has warned miscreants who at every slight provocation sizes the opportunity to attack and kill University of Jos students, who are innocent and law abiding.
The NLC also frown at attack on Journalists by hoodlums during crisis, calling on security agencies to take extra security measures in protecting students and Journalists especially during unrests.
Recall that four Students of University of Jos lost their lives during the recent face off between what was termed Christians and Muslims clash in Jos last week.
Also recall that about seven journalists were also attacked during the aforementioned crisis.
Reacting in a statement issued in Jos at the weekend, NLC warns that:”The constant targeting and attack of students and staff of University of Jos by miscreants whenever there is breach of public peace in some parts of the state must stop.
“The sad and unwarranted situation has led to the abrupt suspension of second semester examination and all academic programmes indefinitely by the University management to save lives.
“We also condemn in strong terms the recent attack of seven (7) staff of Plateau Radio Television Corporation (PRTVC) in Dadin Kowa area, one of the flashpoints after closing from duty”.
NLC however calls on government to establish a permanent security outfit close to the University to secure the community.
“Security agencies should beef up security around University of Jos and focus attention on all flashpoints in the state as well as develop more proactive measures to promptly tackle the challenges”, the statement reads in part
