Impeachment: No respite for Gov Lalong, Plateau lawmakers deny passing vote-of-confidence
Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State may not have a sigh of relief yet over the speculation of plots to impeach him by members of the State House of Assembly following the worsening insecurity in the state. Some members of the House of Assembly have refuted the passing of vote-of confidence for Governor Lalong.
Some lawmakers in the Plateau Assembly were said to have unanimously passed vote-of-confidence on Governor Simon Bako Lalong on Tuesday, and declared support for the leadership of the Plateau governor and his pursuit for peace and security.
The lawmakers were identified to be elected into the State Assembly on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State. It would appear that the controversy over the passing of vote-of-confidence on the Plateau governor has taken party lines.
The Peoples Democratic Party “PDP” lawmakers in the Plateau State House of Assembly refuted that the House unanimously passed a vote-of-confidence on Governor Simon Bako Lalong.
The Majority Leader of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Naanlong Daniel, had moved the motion, and was seconded by Philip Dasun, Chairman, House Committee on Information.
The lawmakers also commended Governor Lalong for his doggedness in handling the situation and restoring normalcy.
The opposing lawmakers at a media confidence in Jos, contradicted the controversial vote-of-confidence on the governor, condemning the attack on Yelwan Zangam community in Jos North LGA and killing of 42 people by gunmen. The lawmakers noted that a governor that cannot protect his people does not deserve vote-of-confidence from rational members of the State House of Assembly.
