Drumbeat of war: Ortom tells FG, arrest Miyetti Allah members for security breach
Governor Samuel Ortom Benue State has challenged the federal government to arrest Miyetti Allah Katau Hore members for incitement and breach of national security to prove the government is not behind the violent activities of the Fulani cultural group, Miyetti Allah Katau Hore.
Governor Samuel Ortom, receiving the 36th Commissioner of Police deployed to Benue State Command, Tunji Akingbola, at the Government House, Makurdi, condemned media attacks by the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore leaders on governors, and threat of war over the enactment of anti-grazing laws by various states across the country.
Ortom, however, decried increasing cult violence in the society, saying that his administration would amend the law, stiffen it, to make it extremely difficult to secure the release of any cultist in Benue State.
The Governor sought increased funding of all security agencies by States and Federal Governments to boost their capacities to fight crime and banditry in the country. He noted that the current security agents and equipment are grossly inadequate.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Tunji Akingbola, associated most criminal activities in the state with cultism. He disclosed that the State Command recovered locally fabricated weapons from suspected cultists during investigations.
