Wike disagrees with Buhari on section 84 of Electoral Act
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State in Friday disagreed with President Muhammadu Buhari over his reservations and request for the amendment of Section 84 (12) while assenting to the Electoral Act on Friday.
Wike, in Port Harcourt, observed that the introduction of electronic transmission of results will reduce killings and electoral fraud in Nigeria, he countered the president’s reservations on Section 84(12) that stipulates the exclusion of political appointees from participating in party conventions and congresses except they resigned from office.
The Governor argued that the reservation expressed by the President is a sign of protecting the interest of his appointees, which Wike said was the main reason Buhari did not sign the amended bill.
