Racist Ukraine compels fleeing blacks to trek to border areas
Ukraine adopted the most racist policy even in war time against blacks in the country, compelling the blacks fleeing the war zone to walk to border zones, denying them mobility in the transportation facilities, particularly, those fleeing to Poland. Some blacks had to make efforts to avoid the racist aggression of Ukraine, changing their direction and turning towards Hungary.
A Nigerian medical student in Ukraine, Jessica Orakpo, in a media chat with BBC News, decried: “they said black people should walk.”
The Nigerian medical student lamented the racism she and other blacks suffered in the attempt to leave Ukraine amidst Russian, Ukraine war.
Jessica Orakpo, residing in the western city of Ternopil, narrated that she first attempted to reach the Polish border on foot – but in the end she took a train to Hungary.
She described the discrimination she and other Africans have faced from Ukrainian officials as disheartening.
