Shinkafi joins Modu Sheriff, withdraws from APC National Chairmanship race
An aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairmanship race, Dr. Sani Shinkafi, a former national secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has joined Ali Modu Sheriff in withdrawing from the race.
Shinkafi at a media briefing in Gusau, Zamfara State, said he decided to withdraw from the chairmanship contest to respect the decision of the APC leaders on zoning the national chairman to the north central. Shinkafi noted that since the zoning is outside the northwest, it has become unnecessary to continue with the race. He, therefore, aligned with the decision of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC).
Shinkafi had declared: “I was the national secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for many years and as such, I know the procedures and processes of a political party. I will abide by the party’s decision to exclusively zone its chairmanship position to the North Central.
“I know what is called party supremacy, I know what is called party leadership, and also know what is called respect for the stakeholders and since the party has taken a decision, I have no objection than to follow their decision.”
“I personally align myself with the decision of the Chairman of the Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Mai Mala Buni. I am with him, and I have accorded him all the support.”
Shinkafi had defected from the APGA APC with Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara Stin July 2021.
Ali Modu Sheriff had also withdrawn from the APC national chairmanship race for the same reasons.
The APC will be holding its national convention in Abuja on Saturday, March 26.
