Wike, PDP in deeper mess as Ayu gives condition to step down, Tambuwal considered for campaign council D-G
Demands and counter-demands are complicating issues as the PDP reels in crisis following the bad blood that flowed since the nomination of Delta Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa as the running mate of its presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.
Rivers Gov Wike who lost both the party ticket and the V.P slot—and might even lose the campaign council D-G— has refused to be placated, demanding the resignation of party national chairman Iyorcha Ayu as the only condition for truce.
Wike and his faction, including present and past PDP governors insist the PDP has been northernised.
According to a report by the Nation, Ayu, willing to step down, has however given his own condition: all the southern members of the PDP National working Committee should swap their positions with the northern members.
Those whose candidate could be affected have however rejected that condition, willing to talk Wike out of his anger.
The options now are to appeal to the Rivers governor with the chairmanship of the PDP campaign council, and let Ayu resign after the general election in 2023.
Although Sokoto Gov. Amin Tambuwal who stepped down for Atiku, to the chagrin of his associate Wike, is also eyeing the campaign council top seat.
