Presidency 2023: Atiku ‘freezes’ Tinubu, curtails poaching of PDP members
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)in the 2023 general elections, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, on Thursday moved to ‘freeze’ the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and curtail his encroachment and poaching PDP members. Atiku, accordingly, met with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State in London after Tinubu had reportedly met with the governor lobbying for his support in 2023.
Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State had celebrated Tinubu’s meeting with Wike, declaring that the Rivers governor had agreed to work for the APC in the presidential election even while he remains in the PDP.
Wike had also met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who is widely perceived to be mobilizing support for Peter Obi, candidate of the Labour Party (LP), as well as Obi.
Other PDP governors and stakeholders at the meeting with Obasanjo, Obi or Atiku, include Gover Samuel Ortom of Benue State; Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, and former Governor Donald Duke of Cross River State.
Atiku commenced negotiations with Wike on unifying the PDP for the 2023 general elections.
