4 causes of itching after bathing
After a shower or bath, the skin may feel itchy for a variety of reasons, such as skin diseases or responses. These may be avoidable, but anyone who has any concerns should speak with a dermatologist.
Itchy skin after a shower is frequently caused by dry skin. The natural oils in the skin can be stripped away by shower water, resulting in dryness and irritation.
It might not always be possible to treat these sensations by putting lotion or moisturizer on. Sometimes extra care is necessary for sensitive, dry skin to reduce the dryness and irritation that create the itch.
According to Medical News Today, peeling, scaling, or rashes are a few other symptoms to keep an eye out for as they may point to a problem that requires medical attention.
The following are a few of the most typical causes of itching after taking a shower:
1. Dry skin
Particularly after a shower, dry skin loses moisture and may feel tight or uncomfortable. The natural oils that keep skin supple and shield it from dryness can be removed by cleansers, detergent, and water.
A hot shower can make the skin feel tight and uncomfortable since the water and soap remove the oils from the skin. In severe circumstances, the skin can potentially split or bleed.
2. Eczema
Eczema is a term for skin inflammation that can cause extreme dryness and irritation. A rash or skin pimples may also develop as a result of this chronic illness.
When the skin lacks natural oils, eczema may become even more irritating and painful after bathing or showering. The hot water from the shower and scented soaps might also make someone itchy.
3. Responses to skincare items
In the shower, many people like to use scented cleansers, soaps, and hair treatments. However, some people may experience allergic responses to these items, resulting in symptoms including itching and others. Contact dermatitis is the term for this.
The fragrance is one of the components that are most likely to result in a skin reaction, according to the National Eczema Association.
4. Reaction to washing detergent
Itching after a shower may also result from using scented laundry products, particularly if those items are used on towels.
After a shower or bath, drying off with a towel may allow certain smells from laundry soap or fabric softener to reach the skin. If a person has an allergy or sensitivity to the product, this may cause itching and irritation.
