Flood kills over 150 persons, displaces 225,539 in Niger
Torrential rainfall caused devastating floods that killed about 159 peoples, displacing 225,539 and destroying homes and public infrastructures in Niger Republic.
National Daily learnt that the country records heavy rainfall between June and August or September, which causes high risk of deadly flooding in different locations, killing people and destroying houses and farmlands.
Authorities of Niger Republic disclosed that 121 people have died after their houses collapsed on them while 38 persons were drowned in flood water. Also about 225,539 people have been affected, including 200 injured.
Flood was also said to have destroyed or damaged tens of thousands of houses, including classrooms, medical centres, granaries and cattle herds.
The meteorological department warned that heavy rain will continue until the end of September.
