2 in court over alleged cheating

Two persons, Ali Abubakar and Thompson Ola, were, on Tuesday, arraigned before a Karu Upper Area Court sitting in Abuja for alleged joint act and cheating.

The defendants, who both reside at Karamajiji, Abuja, were arraigned on a two-count charge of joint act and cheating.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

The Prosecution Counsel, Olarewaju Osho, told the court that the complainant, Mohammed Abubakar, reported the matter at Garki Police Station on Nov. 2.

“The complainant alleged that in September 2022, while he was at Area 8, Garki, selling, the defendants requested for three perfumes, valued at N11,000.

“However, the defendants, under the pretence of sending the money through mobile transfer, disappeared to an unknown destination, until they were traced and arrested.

“During police investigation, the said money was recovered from them”, he said.

According to the prosecutor, the offence is contrary to and punishable under Sections 79 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Ishaq Hassan, however granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 each, with one surety each in like sum.

He, thereafter, adjourned the case till Dec.8 for hearing.
