Vice President Osinbajo not under pressure to resign – Presidency
The Presidency on Wednesday denied insinuation gaining momentum that Acting President Yemi Osinbajo was being pressured to resign by a section of Governors elected under the platform of his party the All Progressive Congress.
A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, said it was not true that Osinbajo was being held hostage by some governors who were said to have demanded his resignation from office.
In the statement titled: “State of the Nation,” Ojudu said Osinbajo was on his desk in his office and performing his routine functions having earlier presided over a meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
The presidential aide described the claim as ridiculous and urged the people to desist from carrying fake news.
He said: “I have read many ridiculous stories saying the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, is being held hostage by some governors who are trying to compel him to resign.”
Social Media is a washed with stories that President Muhammadu Buhari has become incapacitated and hence the northern political establishment would not want a repeat of what happened during the late President Umar Musa Yar Adua, where the north lost power to the South South via VP Goodluck Jonathan, who not only serve out Yar Adua’s tenure but got an additional 4 year mandate and would have gotten 4 more if not that his party the Peoples Democratic Party lost to the All Progressive Congress.
The anxiety in the corridors of power is further compounded as two British based tabloids categorically reported that President Buhari has passed on.
