FEC approves N1.3trn road projects
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the weekly meeting at the State house, Abuja, approved N1.3 trillion roads projects, involving several key road across Nigeria.

A total allocation of over N1.3 trillion was set aside for the road projects which were said to be aimed at improving the country’s transportation infrastructure and enhancing economic growth.
The projects include the construction of an access road in Delta State, which has been allocated N470.9 billion. Additionally, N148 billion has been earmarked for the construction of an access road to the Second Niger Bridge in Anambra State.
Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (Phase 2, Section 1) has received approval for reconstruction, with an allocation of N195 billion as part of the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF).
FEC has also approved the reconstruction of three segments of the Lokoja-Benin road, with a total budget of N305 billion. The project will be fully executed with concrete.

Other approved projects include the comprehensive structural evaluation of the Third Mainland Bridge and Carter Bridge in Lagos, with a contract value of N3.571 billion. The Ado-Ekiti–Igede Road Project has been allocated N5.4 billion, while the Onitsha-Owerri expressway has been allocated N22 billion.
The Wusasa-Jos route in Kaduna State has received approval for an allocation of N18 billion, while Abia and Enugu states have been allocated N12.75 billion for a collaborative road project.
The FEC has also sanctioned N252 billion for the Abuja-Kano highway, which has been divided into two primary segments.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, was cited to have clarified that majority of upcoming infrastructure initiatives will utilize reinforced concrete pavement, which is more durable and cost-effective in the long run.
