Buratai foundation hails FG over reintroduction of history in schools
The TY Buratai Humanity Care Foundation has commended the Federal Government for reintroducing history subject to Nigeria’s school curriculum.
The National Coordinator of the foundation, Mr Ibrahim Danfulani, in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, said the foundation was happy with the development since its Grand Patron, retired Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, is a historian.
Danfulani congratulated all historians, while urging all school managements to urgently commence the teaching of history in the schools as directed by the government.
“According to our grand patron, Lt.-Gen. Buratai, ‘History is a great unifier, it is a leadership developer and a national character moulder’.
“We congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, for this all important decision.
“We call on parents to inculcate the knowledge of history in their children so as to be equipped with what happened in the past that will shape their today and prepare them for a better tomorrow.”
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that the federal government on Nov. 24 announced the reintroduction of history as a stand-alone subject in the basic education curriculum in Nigeria after 13 years of its abolition.
The minister of education made the announcement at the reintroduction ceremony/training of history teachers at the basic education level in Abuja.
