Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has congratulated President Bola Tinubu following his victory at the Supreme Court and subsequent affirmation by the Court as the duly elected president of Nigeria.

Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi of the Labour Party – the two leading opposition candidates at the election – had filed separate appeals to challenge the earlier 6 September verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Court which affirmed Mr. Tinubu’s victory.

Nigeria’s electoral commission, INEC, had declared Mr Tinubu the winner of the election on 1 March.

However, Atiku and Mr. Obi, who came second and third, respectively, questioned INEC’s conduct of the polls; as they alleged widespread electoral fraud and the ineligibility of Mr Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima to vie for the presidency.

But the apex court on Thursday dismissed their appeals, saying they lacked merit, which elicited a response from the major opposition party.

In a congratulatory message on Thursday, Ize-Iyamu said his family and associates join millions of Nigerians in felicitating with the president on the historic occasion of his affirmation as President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the highest court of our land- The Supreme Court.

“I also congratulate the leadership and members of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, and indeed every Nigerian at home and in the Diaspora on this landmark victory that culminates all the electoral disputes stemming from the 2023 presidential election.

“The ruling of the apex court is a confirmation of the perfect will of God as well as that of the irrefutable choice of Nigerians who freely gave you the mandate to steer the ship of their beloved country. It signifies the enduring strength of Nigeria’s democratic institutions and the unwavering refuge that the judiciary provides to ordinary citizens. Likewise, it will also go a long way to help pattern true democracy for other African nations.

“Since I have unmatched confidence in your visionary leadership and capacity, I am particularly pleased to extend my wishes for success in the discharge of your lofty duties. With you at the helm of affairs, Nigeria and Nigerians will flourish and thrive in line with the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda.

“It is our sincere prayer that the good Lord in His infinite mercy will continue to grant you the wisdom, sound health and the spirit of discernment to lead His people,” he added.
