Emir Sanusi orders arrest of father for female circumcision
The Kano State Police Command has explained that one Ibrahim Maikaji was arrested on the order of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, for forcefully circumcising her daughter.
The father was said to have asked three local barbers at Sabuwar Kaura village in Doguwa Local Government Area to hold his daughter down while she was circumcised in a manner that caused her “grievous injury.”
The Police Commissioner, Mr Rabi’u Yusuf, said after the girl was brought to the palace,we had to arrest the father who mishandled his biological daughter to local barbers for genital mutilation.
The Public Relations officer of the command, DSP Magaji Majiya, disclosed this while presenting the suspects to newsmen in Kano on Tuesday.
Majiya said the command had also arrested the three traditional barbers who forcefully held her and used sharp object to operate on her, thereby causing grievous injury to her.
“This operation was cruelly carried out and it caused grievous injury to the genital organ of the victim,” the police reiterated.
National Daily gathered that the names of the three suspected barbers were given as Shu’aibu Wanzam, Muhammadu Garba and Aminu Ali.
The police authority added that the suspects are being interrogated for criminal conspiracy and causing grievous hurt, assuring that they will be arraigned in court for prosecution.
