State Police: A Necessity for National Security – Aiyedatiwa
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has advocated for the creation of state police across Nigeria to address security challenges effectively.
Speaking at the Nigeria Bar Association’s Annual General Conference in Lagos on Monday, Aiyedatiwa supported the establishment of state police and highlighted the successes of the South West Security Network, Amotekun, in Ondo State.
In his lecture titled “Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu Leadership Series: Is State Police a Solution to National Insecurity?”, Aiyedatiwa criticized the current federal police system for its inadequacy in tackling complex security issues.
He argued that the centralized policing structure has been insufficient in protecting citizens and addressing crimes.

The Governor praised the Amotekun Corps for its success in combating terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping, crediting the initiative to late Governor Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and other South-West leaders.
He called for other states to adopt the Amotekun model as a step toward establishing state police, and expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Bar Association for facilitating this crucial discussion.
