Maida praises SAIL Innovation Lab’s impact on youth development

Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice-Chairman/CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), visited the renowned SAIL Innovation Lab in Ikorodu on Thursday, expressing admiration for the founders’ dedication and commitment to community development, especially for the youth.

The SAIL Innovation Lab is an initiative of the SAIL Empowerment Foundation, established by Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru and his wife, Mrs. Feyisola Abiru.

During his visit, Dr. Maida highlighted the lab’s significant contributions to the local community, noting that it has provided free training to hundreds of constituents from the Lagos East Senatorial District and beyond.

The facility is equipped with world-class resources and a faculty of experts, enabling participants to acquire skills in various fields, including Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

Many graduates of the lab have successfully secured employment in these high-demand areas, demonstrating the positive impact of this initiative.

Addressing the participants enrolled in Data Science and 3MTT Product Design classes, as well as the Awarri AI program, Dr. Maida encouraged them to fully leverage the opportunities afforded by the lab.

He acknowledged the vision of Senator Abiru and his wife in creating a platform that empowers young individuals to explore their potential and creativity amid the ongoing digital and technological revolution.

“I am wowed! This is a huge sacrifice of time and resources for the people,” Dr. Maida stated, urging the local community to value and sustain the initiative.

“I want to plead with the community; I know they are taking full advantage of it. This is one great initiative they should treasure. They should join to ensure that the sustainability of this place is maintained.”

The SAIL Innovation Lab has also attracted visits from notable figures, including Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, who have toured the facility and motivated participants to strive for excellence.

The continued support and recognition from such esteemed personalities underline the lab’s role as a pivotal resource for nurturing talent and innovation in Nigeria’s youth.
