The Nigerian Auto Journalists Association (NAJA) has officially confirmed that the 2024 Auto Awards, a hallmark event in Nigeria’s automotive industry, will be held on December 11, 2024.
The prestigious event is set to take place at the Oriental Hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos, and will commence at 6:00 PM.
This annual gathering promises to draw prominent figures across the automotive landscape, including manufacturers, journalists, and key influencers.
The NAJA Auto Awards have long been recognized as a pivotal moment on Nigeria’s automotive calendar, celebrating significant achievements and outstanding contributions within the sector.
This year, the awards will pay special attention to advancements in design, technology, and sustainability that have reshaped the industry throughout 2024.
In a statement, NAJA emphasized that the forthcoming awards are the product of extensive planning and expert collaboration to maintain its reputation as a credible and highly respected platform.
Theodore Opara, Chairman of the 2024 Auto Awards Committee, underscored the importance of this year’s event, particularly in light of ongoing transformations in the industry.

“We’re incredibly excited to gather Nigeria’s top automotive minds and brands on December 11 to recognize the vehicles and individuals who have truly made an impact,” Opara said.
Opara noted that the event will reflect the current shift toward greener and more sustainable automotive technologies. This includes the rise of electric vehicles (EVs), compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered vehicles, and other eco-friendly mobility solutions. “Our aim is to shine a spotlight on the innovations that are driving Nigeria’s automotive sector into the future,” he added.
The 2024 awards will feature an array of competitive categories designed to highlight diverse areas of excellence within the industry. These will include honors such as Car of the Year, Truck of the Year, Best New Electric Vehicle, Luxury Brand of the Year, and Best Auto Tech Innovation. Additional awards will recognize achievements in vehicle safety, design, and environmental sustainability.
The selection process for the awards is set to be comprehensive and thorough. A panel of expert judges, comprised of seasoned automotive journalists within NAJA’s network, will evaluate nominees based on criteria such as performance, technological innovation, and environmental impact.

Mike Ochonma, Chairman of NAJA, spoke about the ongoing shifts within the automotive industry and their significance for this year’s awards.
