FG reiterates commitment to protection of citizens abroad

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to the protection of Nigerians abroad as the country prepares to assume the leadership of the Euro-African Dialogue on Migration and Development in 2025.

This was disclosed by Alhaji Tijani Ahmed, Federal Commissioner for the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), at a news conference on Friday in Abuja, ahead of the National Migration Dialogue scheduled for December 9.

The theme of this year’s dialogue, “Beyond Borders: Celebrating Migrants’ Legacy, Protecting their Rights,” highlights the vital contributions of migrants to both Nigeria’s and their host countries’ socio-economic development.

Ahmed explained that the dialogue aims to protect migrants’ rights, ensuring they live and work with dignity in their host communities while contributing to national development.

It also serves as a platform to address the challenges of irregular migration and promote regular migration pathways, providing safe, dignified, and informed migration options.

He emphasized that Nigeria’s leadership in the Euro-African Dialogue, also known as the Rabat Process, would open doors for knowledge transfer, technological advancements, and increased remittances and investments.

Ahmed urged all to reflect on the profound impacts of migration on lives and communities, thanking the media for its support in raising awareness about the benefits of safe, orderly, and regular migration.
