Tinubu, APC’s FG emulate Obi on studying power generation in Egypt

President Bola Tinubu and the federal government of the All Progressives Congress (APC) may seemingly be emulating Peter Obi in studying power generation in Egypt, two years after assumption of office.

It will be recalled that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, in June 2022, engaged in a three-day visit to Egypt to study the country’s progress in electricity generation, education, and financial services.

Obi was briefed on the operations of the New Capital Power Plant in New Cairo, “gaining valuable insights into how Egypt successfully doubled its power generation capacity from 20,000 megawatts to over 40,000 megawatts in just four years.”

APC leaders and supporters criticized Obi for the travel to Egypt for the purpose of learning, in the build up to the 2023 general elections.

About three years after the learning tour, and two years into the Tinubu administration, the Federal Government sets out plan for a comprehensive partnership with Egypt on various sectors which include agriculture, energy, telecommunications, and infrastructure, among others.

The government has become curious to learn of the power sector in Egypt, which did earlier before the elections and with the foresight of solving the electricity problems in Nigeria.
