Troops rescue 16 kidnapped passengers in Plateau State operation
Sixteen kidnapped passengers have been rescued by troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) in the Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State, according to a statement released on Monday.
Maj. Samson Zhakom, the Media Officer for OPSH, reported that the rescue operation took place on Sunday night along the Mangu-Jos road.
“Our troops have rescued 16 passengers kidnapped along Jos – Mangu road,” Zhakom confirmed.
“The victims were rescued while troops were conducting an operation and discovered an empty vehicle abandoned by the roadside at Mararaban Kantoma in Mangu.”
Upon discovering the abandoned vehicle, troops initiated a search of the surrounding bushes, suspecting the vehicle’s occupants had been abducted.
“On sighting the troops, the kidnappers opened fire, but the troops overwhelmed the criminals with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon the victims and flee,” Zhakom explained.

The troops then successfully rescued all 16 abducted passengers, including six children, after thoroughly searching the area.
“First aid was administered on some of the rescued victims who sustained minor injuries during the incident, and thereafter escorted by the troops to safer grounds,” Zhakom added. The rescued passengers subsequently continued their journey to Jos.
