Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, made a bold political statement on Tuesday as he attended the Senate plenary wearing a customized outfit inscribed with “Tinubu for President 2027”, openly endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term.

Speaking with journalists at the National Assembly complex, Kalu described his attire as an unmistakable “open endorsement” of President Tinubu’s re-election ambition.

“Can you see what I’m wearing? If you look at the dress I’m wearing, you will know what it is. This is the endorsement for president. My dress is perfectly tailored to that,” Kalu said.

He added that the gesture reflects widespread support for Tinubu, especially within the South-East caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The South-East caucus is fully in support. We endorsed him weeks ago, chaired by Governor Hope Uzodinma and co-chaired by the governor of Ebonyi State and the deputy speaker. We initiated the national endorsement,” Kalu stated.

When asked whether his branded outfit was part of an official campaign rollout for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, Kalu declined to confirm but noted that others have already begun wearing similar attire.

“People are already wearing it; I’m not just the first person wearing it. Because you people have a gold eye, you can see what I’m wearing. I’m wearing something for the president — our president, your president,” he said.

Kalu, a former governor of Abia State, also praised the Tinubu administration’s economic policies, including the fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification, which he said were necessary steps toward long-term economic recovery.

While President Tinubu has not formally declared his intention to seek re-election, Kalu’s public endorsement marks one of the earliest high-profile declarations of support for a second term, signaling growing momentum within APC ranks ahead of the 2027 general elections.
