Police rescue abducted law students in Benue, reunite victims with families
Six law students from the Nigerian Law School, Yola Campus, who were abducted while travelling from Anambra to Adamawa State, have been rescued by the police and safely reunited with their families.
The students were kidnapped on Saturday, July 26, 2025, along the dangerous Wukari-Taraba-Benue axis, a route notorious for security challenges.
The incident, which occurred in the late hours of the day, sparked widespread concern among stakeholders in the education and legal communities.

In an official statement released on Friday, August 1, the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, SP Edet Udeme, confirmed the successful rescue operation and assured the public of continued efforts to tackle insecurity across the region.
“The students were safely released and reunited with their families this morning,” Udeme said. “The police remain committed to the safety of lives and property, and we appreciate the cooperation of all stakeholders in this operation.”
While details of the rescue operation were not disclosed for security reasons, the police commended the swift coordination between commands and reiterated their zero-tolerance stance on abductions and related crimes.
The rescue has brought relief to the affected families and renewed calls for stronger security measures along Nigeria’s highways, especially for students and travellers passing through high-risk zones.
