Police arrest suspect, recover stolen cow worth ₦1.5m
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old suspect and recovered a stolen cow valued at approximately ₦1.5 million following a theft incident in Itas/Gadau Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement, saying the arrest was made after a report of livestock theft was lodged at the Gadau Divisional Police Headquarters.
According to the police, a 50-year-old resident of Mai Yashi Village in Gadau District reported on June 12 that unknown persons had unlawfully entered his premises and stolen a cow.
Following the complaint, detectives attached to the division launched an investigation and carried out intelligence-led operations aimed at tracking down those responsible for the crime.
The police said the operation led officers to Turu Village on June 13, where a suspect identified as Moh’d Dingi, 22, was arrested in connection with the theft.
SP Habib stated that the stolen cow was recovered during the operation and has been secured as evidence.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to committing the offence and revealed the identity of an accomplice who is currently on the run.
“The stolen cow was successfully recovered, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice,” the police spokesperson said.
The Bauchi State Police Command assured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property, adding that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, while efforts continue to bring all those involved in the crime to justice.
