Army detains two soldiers over unauthorised security at Peller, Jarvis’ wedding

The Nigerian Army has detained two soldiers for allegedly providing unauthorised security at the wedding ceremony of social media personalities Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, and Jarvis, held in Lekki, Lagos, over the weekend.

The soldiers, identified as Privates Onasanya Ifeoluwa and Ukpai Onyinyechi, are attached to the Nigerian Army Medical Services and Hospital, Obalende, Lagos.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Lt.-Col. Musa Yahaya, said the two personnel were taken into custody on Tuesday over the alleged unauthorised deployment.

According to reports, the soldiers came under investigation after videos from the celebrity wedding surfaced on social media, showing them dressed in military uniforms while performing security duties and escorting guests at the event.

One of the viral clips allegedly showed a soldier escorting TikTok personality Ivanna through the crowded venue, a scene that drew widespread attention and criticism online.

The videos sparked public debate, with many Nigerians questioning whether serving military personnel were officially authorised to provide security at a private event organised for social media celebrities.

The Nigerian Army has yet to disclose whether the soldiers acted on official orders or independently accepted the assignment. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding their deployment are ongoing.

The incident has reignited discussions over the use of military personnel for private engagements and the need for strict adherence to the armed forces’ operational and ethical guidelines.
