…Promises More People-Oriented Projects
The lawmaker representing Lagos Island Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Princess (Hon.) Omolara Oyekan-Olumegbon, at the weekend empowered constituents with food items and cash gifts, while reiterating her commitment to improving their welfare.
Speaking at the event, Oyekan-Olumegbon said that her initiative is driven by her desire to replicate grassroots impact in line with programmes at the state and federal levels.
“I have domesticated what is happening at the state and federal levels within my constituency by providing stipends to my people, no matter how small.
“This is my personal initiative, supported by a few friends. We started by giving N10,000 and N20,000, and we hope to increase it to N50,000 per beneficiary.
“Thousands of people are here today, and we will continue to do more. I have friends who have been very supportive,” she said.
The lawmaker noted that similar interventions were carried out in 2024 and 2025, adding that 2026 has also witnessed multiple outreach programmes, including New Year palliatives, distribution of free JAMB and WASSCE forms, support for widows, and activities to mark the International Day of the Girl Child.
She further disclosed that her office has implemented back-to-school initiatives, solar projects, women empowerment programmes, community development schemes, and the distribution of food packs across all 10 wards in the constituency.
“We subsidise food items. In our last exercise, about 10,000 people benefited, with food items worth N10,000 sold for N4,500.
“I do not like comparisons with other lawmakers. As parliamentarians, we may not be able to fund all these initiatives alone, but with support from well-meaning individuals, we are making it work,” she said.
Oyekan-Olumegbon also revealed some programmes targeted at children, including an annual recreational initiative.
“We brought an amusement park experience to Lagos Island, and the children look forward to it every year. We will continue to expand it,” she added.
On political engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections, she said efforts have been made to mobilise party members through e-registration drives and voter education campaigns in Igbo, Hausa, and Yoruba to encourage active civic participation.
She reiterated her commitment to delivering more people-oriented projects and sustaining support for constituents across the constituency.
