AAC seeks Tinubu’s approval to hold 2027 campaign council inauguration at Aso Rock
The African Action Congress (AAC) has written to President Bola Tinubu, requesting permission to inaugurate its presidential campaign council at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, on November 11, 2026, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party also asked the Presidency to provide food, drinks and other logistical support for 5,000 participants expected to attend the event from Nigeria and abroad.
The AAC’s National Secretary, Oshiokhue Ikpeminoghena, disclosed the requests in a statement on Wednesday, arguing that granting them would demonstrate the Federal Government’s commitment to multiparty democracy and equal treatment of political parties.
“On behalf of the African Action Congress (AAC), I respectfully write to request approval to hold the inauguration ceremony of our Presidential Campaign Council on the 11th of November 2026 at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, in preparation for the 2027 general elections,” the statement read.
The party said its request for refreshments and logistical assistance was based on arrangements reportedly extended to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for a similar political engagement.

“In the spirit of multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness, and equal treatment of political parties, we also request the provision of food, drinks, and other logistical support for 5,000 participants from home and abroad at the event, consistent with the arrangements reportedly extended to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a similar political engagement,” it added.
The AAC maintained that approval of the request would signal the Presidency’s commitment to fairness, equal access and the non-partisan use of public institutions.
It expressed optimism that Tinubu would approve the proposed venue and provide information on the procedures and conditions governing the use of the Presidential Villa for the event.
The request comes as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the AAC seeking to hold its campaign council inauguration at the seat of presidential power.
The party’s presidential candidate is Omoyele Sowore, a journalist, activist and prominent critic of the Tinubu administration.
The AAC’s request, if approved, would raise questions about the conditions under which opposition parties can access presidential facilities for political activities and whether comparable support would be extended to parties outside the ruling APC.
There was no indication in the statement that the Presidency had responded to the request.
