Sowore says PFIPC scandal case should extend beyond Adeniyi Adeyemi

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has called for an investigation into the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, following the arrest of Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-styled Director-General of the alleged Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).

Sowore made the remarks in a post on his X account on Tuesday while reacting to Adeyemi’s arrest shortly after the Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant against him.

He alleged that the arrest and reported treatment of Adeyemi pointed to what he described as “an official cover-up rather than a genuine search for truth.”

According to Sowore, if security agencies were genuinely interested in uncovering the facts surrounding the case, the investigation should also extend to President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff.

“The arrest and reported dehumanisation of Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the alleged Director-General of a ‘fake agency,’ points to what appears to be an official cover-up rather than a genuine search for truth,” Sowore wrote.

“By now, President Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, @femigbaja, should also be under arrest and investigation if the authorities are truly committed to uncovering the facts.”

Sowore further alleged that the individual said to have collected a ₦400 million bribe on behalf of the Chief of Staff had died under mysterious circumstances, while the hotel allegedly used for the transaction had since been demolished.

“So far, the individual alleged to have collected the N400 million bribe on @femigbaja’s behalf has reportedly died under mysterious circumstances, while the hotel allegedly used for the exchange has since been demolished,” he stated.

He also accused the Federal Government of obstructing justice in its handling of the matter.

“In addition to the real crimes, we are now witnessing obstruction of justice by the @officialABAT criminal regime,” Sowore added.

Adeyemi was arrested on Tuesday shortly after Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered his arrest for failing to appear for his scheduled arraignment.

The defendant is expected to face an eight-count charge bordering on alleged forgery, fraud and impersonation in a case marked FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025.

Although the matter was listed for arraignment, Adeyemi was absent from court despite his counsel, Genesis Francis, announcing his appearance, prompting the prosecution to apply for a bench warrant, which the court granted.

The prosecution has listed Gbajabiamila among the witnesses expected to testify during the trial.

The allegations made by Sowore have not been substantiated in court, and neither the Presidency nor Gbajabiamila had publicly responded to his claims at the time of filing this report. Investigations and the criminal proceedings against Adeyemi remain ongoing.
