Insecurity scares foreign miners in Nigeria
From DOMINIC UZU, Kaduna
THE Second Deputy President of the Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Hajiya Muheeba H. Dankaka has identified the current security challenges in the country as the major problem confronting foreign investors’ participation in Nigeria.
Addressing journalists on the preparation of the 37th Kaduna International Trade Faire scheduled for 26th February to 6th March, 2016, Dankaka who is also the Vice Chairperson of the 37th Fair, charged President Mohammadu Buhari to sustain the momentum of stamping terrorists out of the northeast, north central and northwest which have large deposit of mineral resources.
“Because of persistent plague of terrorism and tribal conflict, foreign miners were scared out of Nigeria, especially in the northeast, north central and north west. So the 31st deadline President Mohammadu Buhari gave the security agencies to stem out insurgency in those affected arrears was a welcome idea,” she said.
She advised President Buhari to sustain the Artisanal Policy on mining which was initiated by former President Goodluck Jonathan, adding that it was meant to encourage one local government, one mineral prospect.
On the forthcoming trade, Hajiya Dankaka said adequate security arrangement has been made to secure lives and properties before, during and after the fair, adding that trade fairs are not meant for profits.
“Trade Fair is not to make money. It is basically an avenue for trade links. We creat the platform for businessmen and women, countries and states around the globe to meet and initiate partnership in their respective businesses,” she said.
