Oni clears first hurdle against 2018
The Ekiti State House of Assembly has cleared ex-Gov. Segun Oni of any corruption allegations when he was in office.
The House Public Accounts Committee, as part of the 2015 reports by the state’s auditor-general, petitioned the House, but the query was quashed for lack of evidence concerning the misuse of public funds.
In a statement signed by the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Samuel Omotoso, the House disassociated itself from earlier reports in the media that the ex-governor was indicted by the 2015 reports for misusing the state fund.
“We can confirm that the (Ekiti) House of Assembly sat on Thursday, October 19 and adopted the 2015 reports of the Public Accounts Committee and nowhere was an indictment found or documented against the former governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency, Segun Oni. The house has no pecuniary interest other than that of the people of Ekiti State and hence, will not cry foul where there is none. Oni has no case to answer,” he said.
Oni is gearing up to contest the guber race in 2018, defying the state APC elders advising to stay contented with its southwest vice chairmanship.
Among the multitude of APC governor wannabes is Solid Mineral Minister Kayode Fayemi.
